Emotional Support Services are for students with a disability who require support primarily in the areas of social or emotional skills development or functional behavior. The primary goal of emotional support services is to improve academic, social, emotional and behavioral skills necessary for student success in a school and community settings.
AIU8 works in partnership with two local agencies (Appalachian Youth Services and Extended Family Programs) to provide education for students ages 5-21 in day and residential treatment facilities. AIU8 teachers providing education at these locations are certified special education teachers who provide emotional and learning support. These programs provide a highly structured, comprehensive, safe and supportive environment for the students they service. By placing students in an environment that is very structured and provides behavioral supports, they are given the opportunity to develop coping skills, along with appropriate social/emotional and behavioral skills.
